Office of the Counsel to the Inspector General
The Office of the Counsel to the Inspector General (OCIG) provides legal counsel and advice to the Inspector General and all OIG offices.
OCIG is responsible for civil monetary penalty actions under Section 1140 of the Social Security Act and handles legal sufficiency reviews of subpoenas, subpoena enforcement actions, and other enforcement matters. OCIG also provides comprehensive legal advice in areas including contract law, personnel law, fiscal and procurement law, privacy and disclosure law, including handling all OIG Federal records management law, and legislation.
